"General", 2004,
15" x 20" hooked area
Teacher: Diane Phillips
Diane is well known for her faces and she sure inspired our
class at Sauder Village in 2004. Most of us abandoned our planned project
and struck off in new directions after seeing Diane's work.
If you have a chance to be in one of Diane's classes, do not
pass up the opportunity. She made hooking faces seem easy.
Everyone in that class had an incredible face (or more) hooked by the end of the
four days.

I chose to hook a picture of my husband. We had a wedding
photo taken at Cedar Point many years ago along the Frontier Trail. During
the class Diane had mentioned that one way to understand a method was to copy a
master's painting. I was carrying around a copy of a painting by Andre
Derain called Portrait of Henri Matisse. If you search the internet with
the names above you should find the image - it's the one with a pipe.
Diane inspired me to hook David, my husband, using the colors in
the Derain painting. I got a bit more colorful in the background, but had
great fun.
